January 8, 2021

IIM Udaipur offers India’s only one-year, full-time MBA in Digital Enterprise Management (DEM) to experienced professionals who aspire to become digital managers, leaders and entrepreneurs. The DEM program is designed to let participants learn in multiple ways. The live project activities in Analytics and Technology areas starts and gets completed around Term II and Term III of the curriculum. Let us learn what Deepesh Bhowmik, a current student of the DEM batch has to say about the live projects.

1. Please provide an overview of the project. What is the problem that you are trying to solve?

One of the projects that I am working on is building a Credit Card Risk Analysis reporting dashboard for a financial firm, which will act as a central point of reference for all relevant personnel requiring such reports. This will solve the issue of data being scattered across different systems within the company.

The other project is related to Analytics where we have to analyse text cricket commentary and predict the outcome of bowling. This is relevant for sports commentary websites and other industries that use natural language processing to solve their business problems.

2. What has been your biggest learning from the project so far?

I have learnt a lot about the different aspects of creating a risk analysis dashboard and basically how huge the scope of risk analysis is. There is constant learning here as it is an ongoing project. Also, being able to apply NLP for predictive analytics has been a real learning experience for me.

3. Please share how is the live project helping you learn) teamwork?

Teamwork I would say is one of the most crucial things the project has helped me with. Especially during this Covid scenario where we are coordinating on Zoom or Google Meet all the time, being productive matters the most. In my previous professional experience, I had worked on technical and business requirement documents but doing it again now and collaborating with the client to ensure the relevant documents meet their needs has helped me with client interaction a lot.

4. How is it different from your previous professional experience?

I had never worked on any analytics project before. So, this has been very interesting for me as I have been trying to implement the concepts learned as part of the DEM curriculum into the analytics project. In addition to that, learning about a BI Reporting tool and the domain of Credit Card Risk Analysis has been a very interesting experience.

5. How is a live project preparing you for the industry?

I believe that the live projects are a very useful exercise in project management and most importantly, problem-solving. These skills can transcend any industry as such. Hence, I would say the live projects are instrumental in developing these skills and this is how they are preparing me for the industry.
