CDPM is looking to hire a highly motivated individual, passionate about development policy and practice, who can work under minimal supervision, is an excellent team member, and is willing to travel within India related to work.


Job Description

Title: Centre Manager


Position Type: Contractual


Duration: Initially for one year but extendable up to three years, subject to funding availability and performance


Salary: Negotiable, as per industry standards (development sector research/consultancy)

Location: Udaipur, Rajasthan


The Centre Manager will coordinate the research activities of CDPM under the overall guidance of the Co-Heads of CDPM. The main job specifications include the following:

  • Writing research proposals for externally funded research projects/evaluation studies/consultancy assignments in collaboration with the affiliated faculty members of CDPM.
  • Participating actively in the Centre-sponsored sponsored research projects and assisting the CDPM team members in timely execution of research/consultancy assignments under the ambit of the Centre.
  • Co-ordinating the fieldwork and surveys for research undertaken by the Centre.
  • Publishing research reports, policy briefs and academic papers under the supervision of the CDPM team members.
  • Scouting for research grants from the governmental agencies, CSR units, international and bilateral donor agencies, family foundations and philanthropic organizations.
  • Organizing seminars, talks and workshops for the dissemination of research and other activities of the Centre as well as for generating new research ideas.
  • Disseminating the research activities of the Centre through its website, social media handles, networking/outreach events, media reporting, policy briefs etc.
Job Requirements

The following are the essential requirements:

  • A master’s degree in development studies/public policy/rural management/social work or related fields from the universities of global standing or from reputed Indian academic institutions such as the TISS, IRMA, XISS, DMI or IITs.
  • Minimum five years’ work experience in development-sector research/consultancy, preferably in managing or implementing research projects, conducting fieldwork, analysing secondary data, and writing reports/academic papers.
  • Proficiency in research related tools such as Nvivo/Atlas.ti and SPSS, and knowledge of M&E frameworks is desirable.
  • Good communication skills both oral and written, along with the experience of report-writing, creating infographics and developing concept notes and policy briefs.
  • Experience in organising seminars, stake-holder workshops or conferences.

The Centre’s mandate is to conduct cutting-edge development-oriented research which is grounded in theory and has strong policy implications. The CDPM aims to create synergetic linkages between development studies and management. Within IIMU, it brings useful insights from the fields of development studies and public policy and makes the management curriculum rich and holistic. It applies relevant management knowledge in analyzing developmental initiatives and social transformation projects of the state, private corporations, non-profit agencies, international development organizations and social entrepreneurs. The Centre has an interdisciplinary team of highly accomplished faculty members drawn from different areas within IIMU, proficient in mixed methods research, holistic education, and professional consultancy. The CDPM aspires to become a home for academics, policymakers, practitioners, and thinkers engaged in research and teaching at the cusp of development studies and management. To achieve this, CDPM has initiated forging strategic collaborations with global and national development think tanks, governmental departments, world-leading universities and institutions, multilateral development agencies, philanthrocapitalists and CSR units. In the recent past, the Centre has engaged in collaborative research with partners from the University of Hohenheim (Germany), Duke University (US) and Monash University (Australia). CDPM team members have successfully implemented research projects sponsored by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, Australian High Commission, German Academic Exchange (DAAD), National Commodities and Derivates Exchange (NCDEX) and Indian Council of Social Science Research, among others. The Centre also intends to organize research workshops and seminars on topical issues related to development policy and practice. In addition to encouraging academic research, a key objective of these events would be to discuss ideas to address the major challenges of our time, such as poverty, sustainability, inclusive growth, climate change, gender parity, social entrepreneurship, and responsible business practices. In summary, the CDPM is involved in the following activities:


  • Knowledge Creation: Academic research in development studies and related disciplines
  • Knowledge Dissemination: Workshops, seminars, paper presentation, practitioner talks
  • Data Warehouse: building proprietary datasets for evidence-based policymaking
  • Dialogue and Evaluation: Partnering with governmental, multilateral, non-governmental organizations and CSR units for action-research and evaluation studies of developmental interventions
