Definition of International Applicant

At IIMU, the International status of a candidate is determined on the basis of his/her residency and not nationality. An International applicant is any Indian or foreign passport holder who is:

  • Working or studying or residing outside India with a valid passport or travel documents for at least 18 months in the three years preceding the application.
  • Not in a position to take the domestic entrance examination for admissions to IIMs viz. the Common Admission Test (CAT) conducted by the Indian Institutes of Management.
  • To further clarify, any candidate whether holding Indian or Foreign passport, who is in India on the day CAT will be conducted will NOT be eligible to apply under the International Applicant category. The specific date for the CAT test can be found on iimcat.ac.in. .

The candidate must hold a Bachelor's Degree or equivalent qualification (at least a three-year program), with at least 50% marks or equivalent Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) which is also referred to as Grade Point Average (GPA) in some cases, awarded by a University/College/Institute of Higher Learning/Tertiary Institute in India or abroad. For candidates holding foreign degrees, the equivalence of the foreign degree needs to be certified by the Association of Indian Universities.

The percentage of marks obtained by the candidate in the Bachelor's degree would be calculated based on the practice followed by the university/institution from which the candidate obtained the degree. If the university/institution does not have any scheme for converting CGPA into equivalent marks, the equivalence would be established by dividing the candidate's CGPA by the maximum possible CGPA and multiplying the result by 100.

Candidates appearing for the final year of Bachelor's degree/equivalent qualification examination and those who have completed degree requirements and are awaiting results can also apply. If selected, such candidates will be allowed to join the program provisionally, only if he/she submits a certificate at the time of joining from the Principal/Registrar of his/her University/College/Institute stating that the candidate has completed all the requirements for obtaining a Bachelor's degree/equivalent qualification on the date of the issue of the certificate. The deadline for submission of the mark-sheet and the certificate would be December 31st of the year in question. Non-fulfilment of this condition will automatically result in the cancellation of the provisional admission.
