Dr. Sunil Unny Guptan is a professor and independent consultant based out of Hyderabad, India. He also teaches at the Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Ahmedabad as Adjunct Professor in the Communications Area. He is a mentor and executive coach to several CEOs and top executives. He is also a popular trainer, speaker and consultant in India and other parts of the world. He is also the author of three books, and several scholarly and journalistic articles. He specializes in executive coaching and mentoring, human relations, communication, learning and employee development, and other area of HRD.
Prof. Guptan has spent the past two and a half decades working as a popular trainer, executive coach and consultant to several top organisations in India and other parts of the world in the area of human relations and communication. His passion is in working with people and helping them help themselves.
Prof. Guptan's work focuses on individualized learning and development for top and senior executives through executive coaching and mentoring. He is now with 'Touching Lives'. In founding 'Touching Lives' in 2006, Prof. Guptan looks to making a significant difference in the lives of people. Prof. Guptan began his career working as a journalist with the Indian Express, before he moved to Osmania University (Hyderabad, India) as a member of the Faculty, to teach Communication and Journalism. In 1987, on leaving Osmania University, he joined the Administrative Staff College of India (ASCI). He was a Professor in the Human Resources Area at ASCI till mid-1997. From then to mid 2006, he was the Director of FORDE Consultants Pvt. Ltd.
Prof. Guptan is an Adjunct Professor at the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad, India, in the Communications Area teaching courses in 'Difficult Communication' and 'Managerial Communication'. He also teaches as Guest Faculty at several other institutions of higher learning. He has been designing and directing various training workshops, programmes and consulting projects for the corporate, government and non-government sector, principally in the area of Human Relations, Communication, and Managing Human Resources. As a popular trainer, his experience covers training Chief Ministers, Cabinet ministers and top executives and officials in industry and the Government, officers in Indian Administrative Service, Indian Foreign Service, and Indian Police Service, trade union leaders and school teachers.
Prof. Guptan has a Ph.D., in Business Management, a Masters degree in Communication and Journalism, and an Honours degree in Chemistry at graduation from Osmania University, Hyderabad, India. He has also trained at the School of Public Policy in the University of Birmingham, U.K., on a British Council Fellowship.
Prof. Guptan's book on 'Executive Coaching' was released in November 2011 and on 'Mentoring' in 2006, both published by Sage Publications. He has co-authored another original book on 'Indian Management', released in 1991. He is now working on others on 'Managing Human Relations in Organisations' and 'Communication Skills'. He has also contributed several scholarly articles in journals and monographs, and chapters in books. He has written over 80 journalistic and popular articles in various magazines and newspapers on subjects ranging from television and social processes to medical sciences and wildlife. He has also written and produced several radio and educational television programmes.
Prof. Guptan's professional interests are in the area of Mentoring and Executive coaching, Human relations and organisational behaviour, Communication skills and techniques, Leadership, Team work and dynamics, Social skills, Organisational learning and HRD, and HRD systems. His other interests include human social behaviour, traveling, creative writing, wildlife, audio visual media, and photography.
Widely traveled, within and outside India, Prof. Guptan enjoys people and studying cultures, behaviours and societies. Prof. Guptan invests his personal time in counseling and helping people cope with and repair strained relationships and troubled lives.
