  • Since 2003, I have been with the Finance Faculty at the Indian Institute of Management – Bangalore (IIMB), teaching core finance courses such as ‘Corporate Finance’ and elective courses including ‘Banking, Financial Markets and Systems’ and ‘International Finance’ in the Post Graduate Program (equivalent to MBA)

Contribution to Digital Learning Initiatives
  • Designed and delivered eightMassive Open Online course (MOOC) on the eDX platform (www.edx.org) hosted at MIT, Cambridge, MA, USA in the area of Banking and Financial Markets, the last five as a Professional Certificate Program (PCP) titled ‘Risk Management in Banking and Financial Markets’. ThePCP offers an in-depth understanding of the concepts, instruments (including derivatives), risk management, capital adequacy, etc. in the following areas:
    • Banking and Financial Intermediation
    • Debt & Money markets
    • Equity Stock Markets
    • Foreign Exchange Markets
    • Special Topics in Risk Management
  • The first run of the above PCP was delivered over seven elapse months (Aug-2018 to Feb- 2019), comprising 160 Videos (23 hours of total viewing time), spread sheets, assignments and quizzes and a Certification Exam. 28,000 students from 170+ countries had enrolled in the Program.The second run of the Program is currently in progress on the edX platform and has attracted an equal number of participants

  • Currently involved in scaling up that effort to (a) reach large banks and brokerage houses in India and abroad and (b) engage in academic and corporate partnerships to disseminate the digital learning mode to impart knowledge to a vast cross-section of learners
Research
  • Selected for the UGC – UKIERI (UK India Education and Research Initiative) research grant in March 2017 to pursue research projects under the theme “‘Mainstreaming of the Financial Inclusion Agenda in India”, in collaboration with the University of Essex, United Kingdom. This project involves publishing four high quality research papers in three years, 2017-2020
  • Areas of research interest and expertise: risk management, financial markets, international banking, payment and settlement systems, regulation and monetary policy, micro-finance and technology related to banking and financial markets.

Consulting and Professional Engagements
  • Travelled to over 40 countries and have undertaken professional and project assignments in over 20 countries
  • Was a member of the UIDAI Advisory Group that architected the ‘AADHAR’ project for the Government of India, including the ‘Direct Funds Transfer’ and related initiatives
  • Worked closely with Infosys to build a comprehensive state-of-the-art Core Banking Software (‘Finacle’) to suit the needs of banks, national and international. This software is deployed in several public sector and private sector banks in India even to this day
  • As a sequel to the above, participated in several strategic initiatives of regulatory institutions, particularly the Reserve Bank of India, to enhance the risk management framework as well as the national payment and settlement infrastructure including RTGS, NEFT, inter-bank ATM connectivity, mobile payments, etc
  • Keynote speaker at conferences organized by NASSCOM, CII, Asia Business Forum (Singapore), Hewlett Packard South Asia, Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka, among others
  • Designed and directedover 20Management Development Programs in the last fifteen years for the top and senior management of several companies in the banking & financial services as well as the manufacturing sectors, details can be provided on request
Industry Experience
  • Sixteen years’ experience in Banking and financial services (1987 to 2003) in multi-national and private sector banks in India and abroad, across several functions including retail banking, treasury, credit, operations, financial planning and information technology. I am a strong believer in the use of information technology to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness (and consequently the profitability) of Banks and have demonstrated this in the leadership and consulting roles vested in me over the years
  • Also worked as Head of Consulting with a leading Banking consulting and technology company based in the United Kingdom (1992-1996). I lead a group of consultants, each with experience in banking and information technology ranging from 6 to 18 years, on engagements covering a variety of business domains such as Retail Banking, Corporate Banking, Treasury, and Trade Finance primarily with clients in Southern Europe, Middle East and Africa
